The Last Day of the Summer Holidays .....

Tuesday 4 September 2012
I had a nice day today ... and there were no purchases involved.  The weather was kind and the boys were good.  And tomorrow is the first day of the new school term - yay! Do a happy dance!  I do love my boys but I love my sanity too.  Six weeks of intensive boy action wreaks havoc on a girl's nerves and shopping practices!

Zara linen jumper (old)
Maison Scotch star chinos (a/w 2011)
Topshop Newark sandals (sold out)

Nothing exciting - just chilling gear

Topshop Newark Sandals
Models Own Purple Blue Beetlejuice Nail Varnish

Today was a chilling out day.  I wore stars and stripes.  Stars on my Maison Scotch chinos and Stripes on my Zara linen jumper.  And my Topshop Newark sandals got their first outing up the road to L1's house.  L2 joined us there and it was nice to catch up.  It's funny how at the start of the school holidays, everyone is saying, "let's arrange some play dates" and everyone nods vigorously but in reality - no one actually does because everyone is too busy getting on with their own lives.  But we finally managed to get us all together ... on the last day of the summer holidays.

We had cake and strawberries and oodles of Earl Grey.

I'd rather have a scone.

This looks nice but I confess to leaving half of my slice as whipped cream makes me queasy.  See, you get a pretty picture but the reality is - I don't actually like cream cakes.  Bad for the butt and queasy on the gut!

We admired L2's Mulberry bag - it's huge but that's the way she likes them (nudge nudge wink wink).

Brilliant for smuggling shopping in ...

We talked about 50 Shades of grey which none of us have read so how we managed to discuss it at length is beyond me. We talked about clothes, friends, neighbours, husbands, kids, fashion, everything and nothing but isn't that what being with friends is all about?

In short - I had a really nice day.  I hope Ben had a lovely day too along with all the other children. Today they played like children - no technology, no gadgets, just chasing and racing each other, rolling down slopes and just getting on.   I hope that in years to come, he will look upon a day like this and think what a lucky boy he is and what a lovely day he had that last day of the summer holidays. Chances are he won't remember but if he does ... I hope his memories look a little like this .....

There's a huge monster in there!  Cross my heart and hope to die!

I'm getting out of here before it eats me!

RUN for your lives!

You will eat it!

Okay okay! No more bad jokes!

Awww.

    1. I love these chinos - the stars on them just make me happy. I decided to invest in chinos to make myself break out of the jeans habit.

  2. Sounds like the perfect day :) Love the outfit and was laughing about discussing 50 shades of gray without reading it - believe me, you don't need to read it to talk about it, it's that shallow! LOL

    1. I have to say, the novel has absolutely no appeal but it's funny how everyone has an opinion on it even if they haven't read it. That's good marketing!

    1. I usually split cream cakes with my sister - she gets the extra cream and I get a bit of extra sponge and we're all happy.

    1. I do but who doesn't? The best thing is the jumper was in the sale and an absolute bargain! Sometimes, you just get lucky.

    1. Never too late. It's a strange one this varnish - I'm not sure about it - it's not grey for a start. It has an iridescence to it hence the name Beetlejuice. It has the sheen of beetle wings and changes colour. Awesome ... if you like that kind of thing!

  6. Looks like the perfect day and really, really love your top. Like Sharron, I'm a sucker for stripes. Just recently bought a very cool, box style Breton in H&M (as raved about by Kat recently) so looking forward to wearing it .. but loving the linen style Zara top you have.

    1. I know you've read it ;o)

Yes - the kids are back at school. Great for us mums and hell for commuters.

  8. Love that outfit on you, Sue! right down to your sandals.

Lil L went back to school today. I can honestly say, there were a lot of happier looking moms at the school gate! It's funny. The same thing happened here. We all pledged to catch up over the summer holiday but no one followed through and then frantically tried to slot one in just before school started.

I stupidly bought all 3 Shades of Grey book instead of borrowing them from the library. Got through half of the first book and gave up. I was bored. So uninteresting. Perfect for bedtime reading because it'll put you to sleep within minutes! Perfect cure for insomniacs.

    1. I don't think I have the patience for the trilogy. I took 2 books with me on holiday which I picked up for our local little "bookstore cum anything you want store" and after the first paragraph on each book - I'd realised I'd read them both before. Doh.

Isn't it so much easier when the kids are back at school? Calm aura slowly returning.

  9. Love your tootsie colour and you really know your friends are keepers when you can jump from subject to subject based on a book you haven't read. I had to take a field trip to Neiman's today and just soak in the gold shoes.
