Lumberjack Chic

Zara Parka (old but similar here)
Uniqlo Plaid Shirt (old but similar here)
Zara Jeans (old)
Sorel Caribou Leather Boots (old but still available here)

Footie season is in full flow and this week, I decided to go for a little bit of lumberjack chic whilst cheering the little one on. The old parka came out, the Sorels came out and I was as snug as a bug in an old parka and a pair of Sorels.

And we won! Hoorah!

-----------------------------

I do get quite a few queries about the Sorels and whether they are worth the money and true to size and everything. I did a post on them when I first got them here and I have to say, having had them through a couple of winters - I wouldn't be without. However, they are not the cheapest or the lightest boots on the block so I've had a scout round to see what other options there might be. I have included a few pairs of Sorels in there (I do like the styling) and a good dupe for around £50.

There is 30% off these boots this weekend. These are a great looking alternative to the Sorels I have and considerably lighter. I did have a lovely reader get in touch with me to say that she had tried the Sorels but they weren't for her but the Crocs versions were a surprise hit. And I have to say, I did do a double take when I saw these in a store last year and had to nip in to look at them properly. They are really nice.

These are the nubuck leather version of the ones I have.

Quite utilitarian in design and reasonably priced. Insulated and waterproof - should do the job nicely.

Because I know there will be a few of you out there who will love the pom pom details and the ivory shade.

Are these not the most fabulous dupe of the Sorel Caribous? And at half the price too.

In anthracite. With tan trims. Class.

The one thing to notice with all these - the front of the toe is well protected in rubber. I've walked through "dewy" fields many a time to find my regular leather boots getting soaked through at the toes, so the rubber protection at the front is a godsend in my eyes. You also need thick soles - protection from the cold cold damp ground!

  1. I have two pair of sorels: a new one and a pair of vintage ones, who knows how old, I bought on Etsy. The difference in quality/materials is astounding!

In particular when walking in deep snow for a while, my feet get so much colder in the new ones.

So I guess my recommendation for anyone looking to buy a pair would be look for vintage...

Wearing snow boots is by far my favorite part of living on a mountain btw!

    1. Really that's quite interesting. How old is your newest pair? Mine are from 2013 but I have nothing to compare them too but they have been fabulous. I'm kind of used to the clumsiness of them and I actually quite like that - makes me feel like I have thin legs ;o) Having said that, I have had no deep snow whatsoever since I bought them - they've been like the death knell for snow!

  2. I haven't got a good pair of waterproof boots. My field boots let in water like an old boat! These would be ideal for around the farm and for weekend activities. Nice styling. xx

    1. Oh it sounds like you need a pair of duck boots which is what they are also known as. I know some of the supermarkets start doing them a bit later in the year but there are none showing online right now. There really wasn't any styling - everything was pulled on at the last minute! Saturday mornings are always a bit of a rush as I'm trying to find both boy's kit and make sure they have everything they need.

  3. Well I think you look ace but feel like we must be several time zones apart as I've been in shirt sleeves and a light jumper for watching football this last couple of days. Or are you just 'nesh'

    1. I was in just the shirt in the afternoon when we were watching the planes flying over the village - there was an airshow not far away. The sun was shining then and the Sorels and parka were definitely off!

But it was cold in the morning. I was going for a lighter coat and just the Ugg Kensingtons and then my friend turned up in her duck boots and scarf and coat and I thought "uh oh".

  4. Always admired your Sorels but wondered if they would be a little heavy on me. Really liked those Crocs so just googled them and in a size 3 they came up at £48 with free delivery and returns on Amazon! Ordered to give them a whirl so ta loads for the tip off. For some reason they went back up to £120 for size 4 and up so hoping the 3 fits if I like them x

    1. The benefits of having dinky feet! I see so many size 3's at bargain prices but never the size 4s. Let me know how you get on with them - I know how cold you get!

    1. Thank you Michelle. The old Sorels are a bit of a constant so I thought I'd revisit them for the benefit of anyone else who needs to stand on a cold wet pitch watching ball sports or the such like.

I have to say I did a double take on the Crocs when I went past the shop and had to go back and take a better look at them. No way would you have said they were Crocs. For once it's okay to find them cool!

  6. I really need a proper pair of fully waterproof, warm boots apart from my very old Hunter wellies, which despite not letting the water in, freeze the ???!!! off your feet! I have never tried the Sorels but perhaps this is the year I make the move Sue!! Helen xx

  8. Looking super cool Sue, I may need to invest in a pair of Sorels, J has started rugby on a Sunday (along with Football on a Sat) and there is only so long I can avoid going!! Cannot believe Crocs are kind of cool! xx
