Snow Fun!

Wednesday, 23 January 2013

The snow came down this week - not loads but enough to close the school and give the kids an extra day off after the weekend.

The Grumps suggested that it would be good to take the boys outside along the lane and back again and was Mummy coming too? Oh boy. Do I have to? I don't do the cold very well - this is where I turn in to Mrs Grumps ... after I've donned the fleecy tights, the skinnys over those, the thermal socks, lined the wellys with fleece liners, donned an extra fleece, zipped myself up to the neck and plonked the furry hat on. Armed and ready and with a face like thunder.

Okay - it wasn't that bad. It wasn't that cold and I'd already laid down the law with the kids - snowball with 3 inches of me and they're going to boarding school!

Yes - I really do wear that hat in public!

MUSH!!!

You saying I'm heavy????

For those who have been out in the snow with their kids this week ... who's done this? I know I have!

  1. Ha Sue loving your snow pics, your boys are sooooo cute! I love my trapper hat just in from being outside and I was so cosy, I think they look cool so we're cool together!

    1. They are incredibly cosy and I've got an even worse look than when I wear it like a mushroom cloud - when I look like Eskimo Sue and fasten the flaps under my chin! Actually, I probably look more like Kenny from South Park.

    1. Aww sleet's no good. That's like dangling a carrot and not getting it. I know what I mean!

    1. No way! I did not look chic but I probably did look well protected. That Primark coat is still going strong!

  4. You look so great in that hat!! We haven't had snow . I offered to drive my kids half an hour to the moors to sledge as there is loads of snow there...their answer? No thanks!! I was gutted.

    1. Who's the big kid? I was quite happy to stay in but I have to say, I enjoyed it once we were out especially when the Grumps pulled me on the sledge. Mush!

  5. Oh God, you make me laugh!!!!! Snowballs equals boarding school ... LOVE it!! And in case you don't return to Sharron's blog, I was most entertained to discover (courtesy of your comment) that we share a hatred of enforced relaxation in spas. Honestly, as soon as someone tells me to relax in an irritating 'soothing' voice, I instantly get the urge to jump up and dance or loudly sing 'Can you hear the people sing, singing the songs of angry men?' from Les Mis! Glad to hear I'm not alone!!!

    1. I get very vicious so better the snowballs stay away from me. You should see me when I play air hockey! The only thing is I am a pretty bad shot (at both).

I can think of better things to spend money on enforced relaxation. I can go to sleep in my own bed if I really want to sleep and it's free!

    1. Thank you - I'm getting quite attached to it. I've been known to leave it on even when I get back in to the house. I can fully recommend! Hope you're well and you've had a good new year so far :o)

  7. Sorry Sue, hardly looking at you, your boys are too cute! The cartoon is very funny and glad you had a good time in the end. We had a bit more snow than you from the photos and my kids were in heaven. Thankfully they didn't ask about a sledge. Only thing that matters when it's that cold is to keep warm!

    1. Okay, I'll let you off this time - they are cuter than me. I love that cartoon - I must do because I cut it out of a magazine from 2011 and kept it. I love the Demented cartoons in the You magazine when I get it. They just appeal to my inner idiot.

We were given the wooden sledge and the boys love it - they're a bit warmer than the plastic ones (we have one of those as well) as your bum is not so close to the ground. Like you say - the only thing that matters is that you're warm and that includes your bum!

    1. You've got to try it at least once! It's all melting now and it looks horrid - this is when everything turns mucky slush this is the bit they don't show you!

  9. Love that one of your son trying to pull you on the sled!

Cold weather might not be always fun but I love the idea of changing seasons to keep your days interesting - having one season all year round can feel lull you into a monotony and doesn't inspire to you to change your routine.

    1. I guess the weather and climate in Singapore is pretty constant and snow is definitely few and far between ( a bit like Hong Kong?). I saw your latest instagram pictures of you trying on down jackets - you're wishing and hoping aren't you?

  10. So funny Susan! I HATE going out with the kids too but also I was forced to and actually, like you, ended up having a ball….despite a snowball down my jumper! I did not think of the boarding school threat….have lodged it in the memory for the next time! Avril xx

    1. I know it's not that bad but I always wind myself up about how cold and horrid it is and it's never like that. so yeah - I had fun. Me and the Grumps always end up with a mahoosive take no prisoners snowball fight but I can't threaten him with boarding school like I can with the kids. You've got to park it and use it when they next play up big time.

  12. Your boys look so happy out in the snow (and very handsome:). I am impressed at how you still managed to pull of the stylish look whilst staying warm! I can only dream. Loved the cartoon - I may admit to doing the sledge dunk a time or two;)

    1. They enjoyed the snow ... and I did too (a little bit). But I've had enough for this year now. Roll on Spring - I want to wear less layers - I can hardly move some days with all the stuff I have on. I don't know how you manage where you are!

    1. Thanks Joanna - the Grumps is much better at taking photos when not being ordered about by Ms Bossy Boots and left to his own devices. You need a hat like this in your life - you won't regret it!

  14. LOL! Love the last photo! How cute. The school was closed last Friday and I think half the school was at the park sledging while the parents look like they could do with more sleep.

    1. I thought there would be more people out on Monday but it was quite quiet. You can't make up these comedy moments can you? They just happen when you least expect it. He's a strong boy is Ben ... but not that strong.

I'm not quite as elegantly dressed as you for the snow it has to be said. When it gets cold - I lose all fashion sense.

    1. Oh yes - Ben was so happy. I knew on the Friday and didn't tell him till 8am on the Monday that he wasn't going to school - wicked mother that I am. One little boys' joy is anothers suffering - mine.

    1. Hi Joy - thanks for popping past (I already follow your blog albeit quietly). Yes the snow came, the snow went and the snow has come back again - it is blanketing down as I type. At least you can enjoy your new peacoat where you are - mine has been retired till the weather warms up which I hope is soon.
