Out to Lunch

Saturday, 5 January 2013

Going out for lunch with the hubs! Without kids! Woo hoo! Means I can order what I like without thinking whether I need to cater for the small people and what they might want to eat off my plate. Also means I don't need to pack two Nintendo DS's in my handbag, no wipes and I don't need to walk like a hunchback due to the weight of my bag.

Mango Kate Coat (AW12)
Oasis Fake Fur Gilet (Eons old)
Jack Wills Black Jeans (old)

Zara Altered Dress/Top

Today was also one of the few days we've had where the weather has been sufficiently kind to grant me some sunlight and let me take some outfit shots. I hate being cold and as we are still in January, I put an old fake fur gilet on under my (unlined) Mango Kate coat/jacket to keep me warm. Stuck on the H&M pointys and good to go.

I took some shots inside and then twisted the Grumps' arm to take a couple of shots of me outside. He did mutter something about whether I was going to ever use any of the shots he took of me (I think that was a wee dig) but as we are still having only a modicum of success, I think it's good to always have some backups ;o) However, these are the best two he's taken - he's improving.

He'll only take pictures if I stand stock still and smile/smirk.

And that's him stomping off after he's done his photographer duties! Hee Hee.

Stomp, stomp, stomp!
There's a reason why he's called the Grumps you know!

Anyway, I had a lovely lunch :o)

    2. Well, I can't do makeover, but maybe we can do brunch/lunch and photos. If you have time.

    1. Woo hoo time is great. Love my kids but I love woo hoo time too. Something about ordering scallops because I want them rather than nuggets is always good in my books!

  3. You look fantastic - I love that coat.
I cannot stop laughing though .. my husband is the same as yours! I ask him ON A VERY RARE OCCASION to take a photo and it's as if I've asked him to move a mountain!

I shall try and bribe my 8 yr old to take the photos in the future as I'm sure I'll have more success and less fuss!

    1. I think there are a few grumpy husband photographers out there actually. Glad you have one too! I've tried using the kids and I can definitely say the Grumps is better than the kids.

  5. You look great! Love the casual chic outfit. Your hubby looks tall which is not the best angle if you're short. Mine has to really crouch down or go on his knees (to much camplaint) so I usually get one of my kids to do it but even my 7 yr old is growing too tall for the task :-)

    1. Well he's getting the hang of bending down a little now but it's still very much trial and error. He's used to seeing how I take close up shots of the clothes and he tries these as well but I end up with even stranger angles than the ones I do. We'll get there .. or we'll get a tripod.

  9. Loved reading this yesterday but couldn't comment as was on the phone. You look stunning Sue - you have such effortless style. Loving the layering of fur under your coat…going to try that. Also I LOL'd at Grumps stomping off…bet he loves it really! Have to say my husband is great…very willing tho has been known to say useful stuff like 'I don't like that outfit actually, could you not change into something nicer?' Have a great week…so excited that we're meeting up soon! Avril x

    1. The Grumps usually likes to do the "put upon" face and then the "big sigh" and then the "if we must" face. He even made me do star jumps for my sins the other time! Look forward to meeting up with you too Avril. It should be good craic!

  10. Now I'm sure you said you couldn't pose on one of my posts about my very poor lack of a good pose - practise makes perfect, you look fab! I love your muted tones colour palette, especially your re-deisgned top. Hope you had a nice lunch x

    1. Had a lovely lunch. I was really surprised at getting two goodish snaps out of the Grumps - to the point I exclaimed "This one's not too bad. Well done!" at him when I was looking back at them on the camera.

I haven't worn my altered top much because it's been a little too cold but with a gilet over - I can just about manage.

  11. LOL! I have the same issue with the hubs. He can't go beyond "press THAT button" and has no idea how to work his own compact camera either. That said, he has been very patient with me screaming out all the instructions :P

Another fab casual outfit, Sue! I really like your faux fur gilet. Been trying to look for a suitable one for ages but haven't had much luck.

    1. Your hubs is doing okay. I was horrendous with your camera! Or maybe it's just DSLRs I can't do.

The gilet is about 7 years old - I bought it when I was pregnant thinking I could hide the bump in it. I'm not even sure if I like it that much but every now and then I think it's not that bad and drag it back out again.

  12. Mine Grumps just refuses to take pics full stop and I can't pose for toffee! I still envy your Mango coat!

    1. You should get one - I think they're only £30 in the sale! The posing does feel very unnatural - I don't know how some people do it so easily and not look silly. Get your daughters trained!!

  15. hi Sue - so glad you had a lovely lunch; Nintento DS free!

this jacket looks so great on you, I haven't been wearing mine much recently because it's a little big on the shoulders, but I'm thinking about taking it to a tailor... it's such a versatile thing that I think it would be worth it! I love it paired with the fur especially :)

the weather has been better here too recently, which is so nice - hope it stays this way a little longer!

    1. Hi Fen, glad you made it back safely after your horrendous journey down to Devon but glad you had a lovely Christmas. Still would love to see a pic of you in your jacket (even without head), I know it's meant to be a little oversized but it does at least allow you to put on a chunky jumper to stay warm (your Uniqlo turtleneck/rollneck would be perfect! The fur gilet is a little bulky but sits okay under the jacket due to the roominess. I like to think the jacket has a touch of the little girl lost about it.

As for the weather ... I hear it's going to get colder ... boooo!

My husband won't indulge my silly sartorial pursuits either. Maybe one of these days, all our husbands can sit in a pub and moan about how embarrassing they find our standing in the middle of road, wannabe-model poses are!
