Anyone got an event to go to? Anyone like the Self Portrait dresses? This could be worth a dabble without the price tag.
This one's from Zara and it's just dropped in to store. I couldn't resist having a try on just for the heck of it - sometimes you just have to indulge yourself in a bit of fantasy trying on - it's good for the soul.
Now I have to say that I am totally the wrong build for this dress and these waistlines do nothing for me - I am standing at the most flattering angle I could muster) but face on, it's not good. On the right lady who needs a nice dress like this - this could look amazing! And don't forget, it has a side zip before you try to wrestle yourself in and out.
As I was saying, on the right lady, this looks amazing.
I'm just not that lady :(
If it makes you feel better, Sue, nothing from Zara EVER fits me right either... It's like their clothes are only meant for long & lean people!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, it's a beautiful looking dress which is why I couldn't resist taking it in to try it on. It wasn't too long, and it had long sleeves (an inch too long for me) but it wasn't a great fit on me - I blame all the doughnut eating I do. Back to the shift dresses I go!
DeleteAnd yes, a lot of their clothes are for longer and leaner gals. Doesn't stop me popping in though :)
It's gorgeous! I'm definitely long, (not sure about the lean!), so can you please throw a party and invite me? ;-) xx
ReplyDeleteI was hoping you'd do the party and I'll just turn up in a dress of some creation.
DeleteIt's beautiful Sue - now just need an occasion to wear it instead of jeans!
ReplyDeleteDo you know something Joanna - I wouldn't choose anything like this these days - it needs to be more functional for me and with no waist and with pockets! It's a lovely dress all the same and for some people with the right event to go to and who like to dress up, it will be perfect.
DeleteI think it looks great on you, Sue. Zara doesn't work for me other sadly. Lynne xx
ReplyDeleteIt's surprising how many people Zara doesn't work for actually. I usually really like their shoe designs and rarely find a pair that fit me properly and suit me. I'm too short for their trousers and I'm all wrong for their dresses. But occasionally, just occasionally I get lucky!
DeleteIt's lovely Sue, I'm long and lean(ish) but Zara doesn't like me either because I've got square shoulders and boobs xx
ReplyDeleteThis won't work on you either. It's not designed for boobage ladies and the shoulders are neat. I only just got away with it. For a small gal, I am quite broad but my family have always said, it helps to prop up the clothes!
DeleteI love the style....wish I had a wedding to go to or a day out at the races as this would be perfect! It's quite a shock to see you in something so dressy....I can't say you look all that convinced that it's you though! ;0) Sometimes we've just gotta try these things though, even if it's only to satisfy our own curiosity xx
ReplyDeleteWell I've seen so much about the Self Portrait dresses and I don't have the energy to try and find a real one to try on so this is as good as it gets and to a certain degree, it does confirm, it's not the right thing for me. I need something a lot more fluid and relaxed so I feel like myself. But it's an itch scratched!
DeleteWas browsing H&M yesterday, they also have a black Self-Portrait lookey likey. They're all at it! http://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0381513001.html
ReplyDeleteThink the Zara dress looks lovely on you....but also understand if you haven't got the occasion to wear it then there's not much point. I'm trying to steer myself away from my magpie-like attraction to sparkles and lace, and get real about how much of that stuff is relevant to my lifestyle. Sad times! ;)
Sad times indeed. I'm pretty much like that these days - I like to try things on still but I just have to know when to put things back which I actually have no need for. And everyone is getting in on the Self Portrait styling aren't they? I can't do the dresses but if we're talking tops, I'm in with a chance.
DeleteI spotted that dress too Sue, and it's a goodie to be sure! But like you, height is not on my side, so prob wouldn't work for me either. But I have to say it looks very special indeed, and as always with Zara a great price too!
ReplyDeleteHelen xx
Height isn't a problem here - that's workable with this dress - it's the spare tyre round the middle which doesn't go well with the dress. But it's a lovely dress if you have the perfect figure for it.
DeleteIt's a very nice dress but holy hell, the underskirt on the model looks REALLY short. I have an Anthro dress like that and I'm often a bit self-conscious in it as the top layer is sheer and the lining is around my bum cheeks... lol!
ReplyDeleteIt's actually not that bad isn't the underskirt - there's no bum cheek flashing going on with this one. You have the perfect figure for this dress - nipped in waists really suit you!
DeleteLooks fab on you Sue, a good 'homage' to the self portrait dresses but a good price..you never know an exciting event may come up?!
ReplyDeleteIf there was an exciting event, I'm not sure this one would be the one for me - it needs some pockets so I can jam my hands in them! Then we might be talking :)
DeleteOh I love this dress it is stunning, and trust me, you can get away with it it looks great on you! x
ReplyDeleteThank you Julia - it's a lovely dress but sadly as always, I really have no need for anything like this. When I was younger, I would have just snapped it up just for the heck of having something lovely but I think I've got a lot more practical these days. I'm all for a bit of comfort too (need some slack in the waistband or no waistband which is even better!).
DeleteI think it looks great on you, Sue. Zara doesn't work for me other sadly. Lynne xx
