Uniqlo Down Jacket, Aubin & Wills Blouse (not seen), Adidas Stan Smiths, New Look Jeans
I never learn. But then again I'm a bit of a lazy moo sometimes. I never expect to be recognised by anyone other than the people I already know. The cricket mums know me, the school mums know me, the mums group mums all know me. I feel quite safe rocking up as I am - no makeup, hair not brushed and in need of a cut and colour and no one says anything. I'm pretty low maintenance. I'm just Sue.
So meandering in to Margaret Howell yesterday in the York Outlet (George likes it in there because they have a bench and a box of kids books which he quite happily sits with - more shops should do this), I was suddenly aware that someone was talking to me and asking if I was Susie So So. Err yes, blush blush and then I found myself gabbling like a nutter to the ever so cool looking assistant, apologising for messy me and trying to make out I was a relatively normal sane person before eventually taking sanctuary in Hackett across the way.
The event rather tickled me and everyone's comments on Instagram made me laugh and reminded me of a certain show. You know the one .... "I'm a celebrity, get me out of here!" :)

Last Note :
- Hi! To the cool shopping assistant in MH yesterday if you're reading.
- Anyone else been spotted on their travels who blogs?
do we smell a store event brewing (with its own hashtag like susiesoso x store) with earl gray tea and blog-worthy macarons served? :P:P:P
ReplyDeleteDo you know something? I have only blogged a macaron once in all this time and none have ever featured on my insta feed. Probably because I come across them so rarely. Doughnuts have featured a lot though :)
DeleteI saw your post and did think that was pretty cool! Happens to me all the time - not being recognised....but nip to the shops without make-up and a bra, and it's like a reunion at the local supermarket ;o) Always the way x
ReplyDeleteWell I got caught in the supermarket a few years back and promptly nipped in to the Boots straight after to buy myself some makeup. But I obviously didn't learn. But just think, how bad it would be if you bumped in to an ex when you are looking really really bad? #shudder
DeleteWhat a fabulous story. The pitfalls of being a blogger - having to look groomed at all times. Although Susie SoSo, you look lovely here and pretty much all the time so you don't have to worry. But I totally agree with Life With Mulberry - I NEVER bump into anyone until I sneak out the house looking my absolute worst.
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you Ellie but believe me, I only put the half decent pics up and not the really rough looking ones! Last week when I was decorating, I looked the worst I had looked for some time and I even went out in some of my decorating stuff - I was desperate and it was 8.30pm at night and I had to choose a pot of paint and I thought, I really really hope no one I know sees me. I would have been a scruffy So So!
DeleteI met Laura WIT blog at a Boden press day a few years ago and was a blithering idiot. Lol. Never been recognised - in fact actual running friends walk past me in my regular clothes as they only usually see me in my cap & running clothes. Happened twice last week!!
ReplyDeleteSo not just me then! I never expect to be recognised because I have a small blog so it really phases me when someone does recognise me. I keep saying the world is much smaller than you would believe.
DeleteHa ha! You always look gorgeous, Sue. I rarely pop out without make up as I look like death without it! Lynne xx
ReplyDeleteI don't wear very much normally but I do benefit from having a little something on. I went out to the village today and I put some slap on. Not getting caught out again ;o)
DeleteThis happened to me once in Chapel Allerton Costa one morning just as I was about to stuff a croissant in my mouth. It is the weirdest thing but kinda sweet too. By the way, didn't realise you were based up north like me!? Xx
ReplyDeleteIt is lovely but I always worry about being really disappointing and normal in real life - what is it they say? "I'm much cooler on the internet" :)
DeleteAnd yes - a Yorkshire Lass here! I love seeing your pretty Harrogate houses. They are much grander than the wee cottages I capture on my travel but I think I like the little ones because I used to live in one.
I usually get recognised on stressful Saturday morning shopping trips with the family, certainly not the time I look my best and most approachable!
ReplyDeleteI'm not usually at my best with the children around. I'm usually a bit of a banshee - they seem to bring that out in me :)
DeleteI'm guilty of this! Sorry Sue. When I saw you at the York outlet you looked super cool and trendy and had a very cute young man with you, and it was him I recognised, it was lovely to meet you both xx
ReplyDeleteAmazing - I was outdone by George ;o) Mind you he is cuter and cooler than me!
DeleteAnd it's been lovely getting to know you via Instagram and the blog - it's a small world!
Oh hilarious! Although I think you look lovely in the photo. I've only been recognised once locally - and thankfully I had just come from a meeting so had my make up on and hair in place. It did freak me out though ... as you say, we forget just how small the world actually is!
ReplyDeleteOh you jammy thing! I always get spotted when I'm away with the fairies and the kids are running circles round me. Just another day here in Paradise then.
DeleteNever mind being recognized - a down jacket!? Has summer missed the North again?
ReplyDeleteIt most certainly has missed the North and most of the country it seems. We were predicted three days of rain and we are currently on the second and it is bucketing down!
DeleteYou always look amazing Sue & I'm sure the shop assistant was too busy gushing to notice anything else! x
