You know me - I love a little denim dress. Last year, I found a lovely looking shift dress from Topshop which I showed off proudly in this post and then found myself returning it based on the fact that it was too short.
Look what I found! Another almost identical one! But this one is from Dorothy Perkins and is in a light denim/chambray type fabric which is what I really wanted the Topshop one to be.
Get this. It's even shorter than the Topshop one and am I fussed? Not too much providing I don't bend over to pick anything up and I also don't try to reach anything on the top shelf of the supermarket aisle. Either way the result is the same (cue much blushing). Besides, the summer of 2013 put paid to all my fears of not wearing anything unbecoming of a 40 something mum with chubby knees.
I was too hot to care.
So if anyone out there likes little blue denim shift dresses, can I say, this is rather cute and very comfortable. It is rather short though and I'm saying that as a bonafide midget. However if you are as tall as tall can be, you can wear it as a tunic. I read one of the reviews for it which said "nice top" (chortle chortle).
Anyway, take some inspiration from this girl ....
... and you can see why I love little denim dresses. I want to look like this when I'm re-incarnated. I'd like to pass on coming back as a cat or a dog. You get rank food.
But I am sorry to say, it is sold out online. And you will have to look in store. And if you strike quick and lucky - you can get it for £17.50 instead of the recommended price of £25 whilst Dotty P's have a promotion on.

Last Note :
- Dress product code is 70261949. You could always ring your local store - I've done it before and they've been pretty obliging. Besides, I know some of you are pretty hard core and will track something down if you really want it enough. And there's nothing like saying "sold out online" to get the bloodlust going is there?
- Joanna mentioned that I should start wearing some of the clothes that I stash away. She has a point. But I think I can get away with not wearing this just yet as I bought it for the summer. So there! I didn't break my resolution exactly.... I think :o?
- This one is also kind of cute in a Kirsten Dunst/Carrie Mulligan kind of way. It comes up big though. Size down for a body flattering fit. Stay your own size for a food flattering fit. Would be cute with some pointy sling backs a la fifties style.
Ooooo cute dress....I like it a lot! I am a big fan of a denim dress and have just bought one from Levis which I will be wearing with black opaques and boots till such times as it is warm enough and my legs are passable enough to bear (normally September!, it seems, for my 39th birthday present, I have got saggy knees!!) however I think there is space in my wardrobe for a little denim shift dress! X thanks for the tip off on the pale grey NBs I think I will go for them I do love yours but as I have a pair of navy pale grey will be more of a contrast x
ReplyDelete*bare* dah!
DeleteI saw your Levis dress and it's lovely. And a good idea to wear with the opaques and boots till the weather warms up. I might do that with mine if I ever manage to get out of my decorating garb.
DeleteAnd I bet your saggy knees are just a figment of your imagination - I don't believe it.
The pale grey NB's will be lovely with the softer colours moving in to Spring.
Love this little denim dress. So cute! What a shame it has sold out online. I have neither the time or patience to shop/phone around! I'll keep searching for the effect one for me! Lynne x
ReplyDelete*perfect*!
ReplyDeleteI was just passing through DP's just before Christmas when I saw it but I put it back. I'm glad I did as the next time I saw it, it was on offer which I didn't know about until I reached the cash desk. One happy bunny here :o) Fingers crossed you find yours soon.
DeleteI dashed off to DP after reading this post this morning but to no avail....all gone :0( But I hey I will have lots of fun researching to find another one! Love the inspiration pic.....how gorgeous does she look! x
ReplyDeleteShe does looks pretty gorgeous doesn't she?
DeleteI was thinking that there'd be none of the dresses in store when I went in especially as the sizes were disappearing fast off the website. And when it does that, it always gears me in to action. At the very least, I get something before it sells out and then I can decide at home. Then I can't cry over what might have been. Have fun researching Michelle - love to see what you find.
I love my denim dress similar to the one you have posted here. I got mine via a charity shop, it's Oasis and is perfect!
ReplyDeleteEven better - I bet it was a bargain too. I never have such luck. The only time I go in one and it's full of old 60's polyester jackets!
DeleteI don't like this kind of dress. I think the person gets fat or something :/
ReplyDeletewww.juliechagas.com
That's okay - not everyone will like it. I like loose dresses personally which skim the body and gives me room to enjoy my food :o)
DeleteLove this denim dress Sue, if only it was available online :-( Jane xx

I think it's a great little summer sightseeing address when you just want to be covered up enough. Perfect for going out for evening drinks and glammed up however you choose. Would suit your lovely figure.
DeleteI want to see it on you!!! What a bargain Sue. x
ReplyDeleteYou might have to wait till the summer Natalie. Unless I'm feeling a little out there in the next few weeks and feel like wearing it with some tights and boots. Actually, I'm starting to feel this one - I might just go there actually!
DeleteVery cute! I love little shifts like this and always opt for a food flattering fit:) And yes you can stash this till spring - I'll let you off:) xx
ReplyDeleteI'm doing better Joanna. 2 pairs of trainers in the last couple of weeks. And I cracked open a pair of joggy bots which I'd had for over a month on New Years Day. That's progress!
DeleteLovely shape - I like denim dresses with a nice shape so they don't hang like a tent. I got mine in a charity shop too - Gap one, but had to cut the sleeves off :(
ReplyDeleteI remember your post on it and you did a great job. Totally updated the dress. I already have one but I couldn't resist another especially as I love this kind of shape so much.
DeleteWhilst I can see the appeal I think it hides a gals figure a bit too much. Every time I see a dress like this I think "that would look really good with a belt to draw the waist in".Doh!
ReplyDeleteIf I put a belt on this, it would border on indecent. I've tried belting shift dresses before and I think it doesn't work well as the material bunches up in the wrong places or maybe just on the ones I've tried. And quite often I start off with a belt on something and take it off not long after. I don't like feeling restricted - I like my food :o)
DeleteThat girl looks fab I must admit, can't wait to see you in yours. Last summer was so hot it got me back to sleeveless dresses, I didn't care either!
ReplyDeleteWell I'm not going to style it up much - I don't think it needs much. It's just which shoes I think.
DeleteAnd yes - last summer was quite something - but liberating don't you think? Or maybe as I get older, I care less as it's a case of now or never.
It's very nice - i used to have an old NewLook one that i still miss very much. And if it's just a bit too short I would simply wear it with skinnies or leggings...sorta like a tunic (don't tell mumsnet :-)!!!
ReplyDeleteI certainly wouldn't tell Mumsnet! They would have a field day on me LOL! I've never actually done the leggings and dress thing. I see some people do it and they can look wonderfully artistic ... or sometimes quite dreadful. It's a fine line getting it right.
DeleteI'm loving that style lately, it is ideal for winter and so comfortable! I am now busy working on the 'art' haha!
DeleteThat's a very cute dress ... would like to see it on you! I like this look; very casual yet chic at the same time. Tan definitely a must though I think! Fingers crossed that all going well with the meds, this is the type of dress that I can look forward to wearing come summer (not to mention - fingers crossed that we get another summer again this year!)
ReplyDeleteI hope the meds work for you. I hadn't realised it had gotten so bad at one point for you. You hide it well - a trooper. Let's hope it's a sandals and vest top year for you this year!
DeleteI love my Oasis denim dress and this is a great find, definitely ear-marking this new shape for my wardrobe:)
ReplyDeleteDid you get it last year? They had one in a very similar style and I remember looking at it and wondering whether to go for it and I decided to stick with my old Dotty P's one instead.
DeleteI found a similar one in Miss Selfridge - not such a good price £38 , but in stock!!!. and ordered by me this afternoon!. :-) It will be a great transitional dress going into the Spring.
ReplyDeleteA brilliant find. I didn't spot that on my travels. £38 is not too bad a price and the same as this one in Topshop http://www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?searchTerm=denim+dress&storeId=12556&productId=13544101&urlRequestType=Base&categoryId=&langId=-1&productIdentifier=product&catalogId=33057 which is very similar.
DeleteHope your dress turns out good for you!
Love it! I really liked your Top Shop one but we decided it was too heavy for Tunisia & so I didn't go for it! I too have the forty-something Mama knees but blow it! Lifes too short & I will scare you all by getting them out this summer! ;) Ax
ReplyDeleteThe Topshop one was lovely but yes, the denim was a lot heavier. The Dotty P's one is very light so great for the summer and fab for those who don't like to show their arms. Sometimes you just can't help what you like and great when it eventually turns up especially at a bargain price :o)
Deletewhen are we going to see you in this cute dress? i actually have a pinnie from topshop i bought last summer but never wore because.. too short. that's my one problem with shopping for shorter dresses online, i'm 172cm and somewhere between normal and tall where tall clothing often ends up being too long and normal clothing often ends up being dangerously short. first world problem! i probably should have returned it but i think you've inspired me to revisit this idea.. let's see if i can rustle up some courage this weekend

Super adorable dress. I love the shot of the girl wearing a similar one. I had a dress quite like this one but it was cut a bit too a-line so I always felt like I looked a bit pregnant in it. Must go searching for a new denim dress. Thinking it would come in SO useful this summer! xx

Hello you! Happy new New Year! Incredibly cute on this model-woman.... she looks like the same person in Cookies and Candies blog post today doesn't she? But I am sure I could not carry off the length (i am fixed on at the knee these days) or pull off the roominess.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous dress. I love how the girl in the photo has styles it. She looks so effortless. Love Liz xxx
ReplyDeleteI love it. I can totally see you rocking it.
