Persian red and ecru. Here we go again. Nooooo!
Actually, I was a bit more successful this time. Because there were no stripes involved. Or weird sizing.
Actually, I was a bit more successful this time. Because there were no stripes involved. Or weird sizing.
I put the (Persian red and ecru) Isabel Marant Stacey blouse on my wishlist in January - 8/9 long months ago. And every now and then I'd see it pop up on the odd blog looking lovely and I'd go and visit on NAP and think ... "no, not just yet". "No, not just yet" eventually became "right this very minute" on the first day of the NAP summer sale.
Now why did I play the waiting game? Apart from the fact that I have clothes a plenty, this red in my eyes is a little autumnal. I thought it would be quite challenging to wear in the summer even though Net a Porter styled it with white jeans to bring in the summer theme. I tried it with white jeans - I looked dreadful. The model looks great. I repeat I looked dreadful - so no pics. However, with the black jeans, it all falls in to place for me.
Can you now see where my autumnal reasoning comes in to play?

The black jeans feel twenty times more me. End of.
Three basics. Blouse, jeans, boots.
Shirt untucked
Obligatory fashion half tuck
Add a bag and fluffy hair. And we're done.
Blue jeans don't go bad either.
New Look Jeans, Krimble Sandals (all old)
But the most peculiar colour pairing with this blouse? Green pants. As demonstrated by Isla Fisher.

Now credit where credit's due for the most unusual combination and I really didn't rate this until I tried it myself. Honestly, if you look at something enough times ... it all starts to look right ... even if it's a little wrong. Anyway, it kind of grew on me.
Gap Skinny Mini Skimmer Khakis, Monsoon Sandals
A bit madness and badness and a little Christmassy in colours too. Oh my - did I really say Christmas?

Last Note :
- You're right Louise. It's lovely. It makes me smile when I put it on :o)
The blouse is just perfection - I'm envious! Actually I think the red and green works on you better than Isla . Great styling and a great buy!
ReplyDeleteThanks Claire. And no need for envy. I get a blouse. You get an Aga!
DeleteI don't think I shall be buying any clothes for a long time because of it though :( Unless I apply for a full time job!
DeleteYep it's lovely Sue! Blouse, jeans and boots sounds like my kind of uniform - I'd never have thought to wear with green - you've pulled it off though! I need to try this half tucked thing now!
ReplyDeleteI admit - I would never have thought to pair with the green either (thanks Isla)! It was really strange when I first saw it but given that I had a pair of green khakis, it was worth a go. And I'm glad I did.
DeleteI love that blouse (and have also eyed it a lot) and it really looks great on you. I actually think the green pants are great!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachel. If you see one on your travels, you should definitely try and pick one up. It would work so well on you - I can already picture you in one especially with black jeans and your ankle boots.
DeleteOh it is lovely - I do the same sometimes when it comes to a piece I like, but don't necessarily need. I develop a resentment when I can't wear something straightaway/it doesn't work.
ReplyDeleteMy fave is definitely with the black jeans. I think it would be great with denim shorts too?
I actually don't mind if I can't wear something straight away - I just like hoarding any way. Pieces always come in to their own when it's their turn to do so.
DeleteAnd denim shorts - yes - next year - the weather has turned!
That blouse looks stunning on you! Such a good buy. My favorite is with the slightly distressed black jeans and the half_tuck. Perfect. Course it goes great with everything else too, I think you'll get a ton of use out of it. May I ask what booties you're wearing with the black jeans?
ReplyDeletewww.nomadicd.com
You may ask about the booties. These are my old faithful Office Namesake boots. I bought them last year and I have to say they have served me really well. http://susiesoso.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/dicker-boots.html
DeleteI don't think Office stock them anymore but these are almost identical but only one size left. http://www.sarenza.co.uk/valensi-farcow-s783945-p0000055481
And I find it really strange that every one outside of the UK refers to ankle boots as booties. Booties are what babies wear over here.
Have you had a look at Hudson boots? I think you might like them.

It would make me smile too! Looks lovely and I like it with green as well as the more classic colours! Now that's what I call investment dressing! Well done Sue x
ReplyDeleteThank you Sharron. I think it's one of those really easy to wear tops where it does all the work for you. The green is strange but somehow it works. That Isla does know what she's doing after all.
DeleteThat's fab on you. Love the fluffy hair. Love the New Look jeans. Love it all in fact. What a great buy.
ReplyDeleteI actually took the pictures a while back. I'd just come back from the hairdressers after the most horrendous blow dry and I'd had to wash out the Stepford do as I couldn't stand it one second longer. I just literally waffed the hairdryer over and that seemed to do the trick. I need to tell them less is more with me next time.
DeleteI'll be honest, I liked it but I wasn't completely in love till I saw it with the green jeans. The perfect combination x
ReplyDeleteYou like your colours don't you Avril. The red and green is definitely colourful but strange how it works.
DeleteOne of my favorite Marant top from last summer! I tried it on and toyed for awhile with the idea of buying it.
ReplyDeleteWell done with that sales purchase, it looks great on you! I atually like it paired with the olive pants, an unexpected but lovely combination. Just a question though, can you still go outside with sandals? If so, lucky you!
I remember seeing it on you on your blog but in the black colourway. I think that was the first time I'd seen it in the black.
DeleteCan I still go outside in sandals? No - I think that ended last week. I put away the flip flops and sandals today. I took the pics a few weeks ago and just remembered to use them. I am nothing if not slack.
Yay! And it is perfect for you, too - I told ya so!
ReplyDeleteIt's great with black jeans, I agree, although I do like mine with white. I am wondering how I can adapt it to colder weather actually, and even thought of trying a slim fit turtle neck beneath it in black....we shall see! Not keen on it tucked on me, but I love how the hem lies at a decent length to be flattering untucked with almost anything.
The colour is a wise choice too i think:)
Yes - you were right Louise :o) It just feels nice and the colour is so sharp but in a good way. I wish I could do the white jeans but I'm not built like you and not confident enough to stride out in them. Black is more comforting for me.
DeleteFor winter - I found it works well with the ever faithful grey Uniqlo cashmere cardigan but it's nice just to see a peak of it under a jumper? If you go with the black turtleneck - be sure to post a pic. I need lots of inspiration.
Love that blouse! Untucked.
ReplyDeleteHi! I confess, I will probably be wearing it untucked. And if it was tucked, it would only be a matter of time before I come untucked :o)
DeleteThat shade of red for me is one of those really hard to wear shades which I normally avoid. Maybe I'm just lazy to experiment. I really like it with the green actually.. kudos for pulling it off so nicely. I must check out Gap soon!
ReplyDeletesteph / absolutely-fuzzy.com
I think that this is the only red thing I have in my wardrobe. No that's a lie - I have a red dress too but that scares me and doesn't get much wear. But this shade is a bit darker and more flattering so it's actually quite easy to pull off.
DeleteAnd strange how many votes the green pants are getting. I may even be brave enough to wear this colour combo out at some point but with some boots - it's turned a bit nippy over here in the UK in the last week. A lot nippy actually.
I'm quite envious you scored that top on sale. My favorite look is with blue jeans and maybe transition it into fall with a darker pair of jeans and faux fur vest?
ReplyDeleteI quite like experimenting with different options and putting it out there for people to see. It's fun to read the different responses and you can see how it relates back to people's tastes and preferences.
DeleteI've not thought of it with a faux fur vest - I only have a black one which I think will look a little harsh with it but a softer tone would definitely work. Drat - I knew I should have kept the Gap kid's one I picked up as a present for my god-daughter.
You finally bought it. Good for you because it looks fab on. I'm bad with reds but that burgundy tone is flattering and neutral enough to go with most things.
ReplyDeleteI fell in love with it and then was a bit non fussed and when it came up in the sale but thought I'll give it a go anyway. I wasn't even that fussed when it arrived but when I put it on, it just fitted really nice and the colour was lovely - something I'm a bit unused to. So I kept it. Sometimes, I do keep things. Sometimes.
DeleteOh that is a lovely shirt for you! And I like it with both the black and blue jeans. I agree, not with white jeans. I imagine you will always enjoy wearing it!
ReplyDeleteThank you Belinda. I would have thought this would have been one of your kind of tops - the shape would be perfect for you. It's kind of pretty and feminine which is how I see you.
DeleteThat is such a 'you' blouse ... I laughed when I saw it. I'm surprised it didn't have a little bubble on the NAP website saying 'cooee Sue, come buy me, I was made for you!' And strangely, not sure why, I like it best with the green jeans. Don't you love it when something that shouldn't work, just does?!! Great buy and your good health to wear x
ReplyDeleteIt's funny isn't it how after a year you can work out what clothes suit and are for a particular person. Like I always walk past White Company and think of you.
DeleteAnd yeah - the green is strange but good. Its also the most comfortable combo (yay!) and I can swap the sandals for ankle boots now that the temperatures have dropped.
Some things are totally worth the wait Sue and this was one of them! It looks so you! The black skinnies and boots is my favourite look....very Marant. You know you have a winner when it brings a smile to your face :0)
ReplyDeleteStill smiling Michelle, still smiling :o)
DeleteHi Sue-an excellent purchase which will be so trans seasonal and go with all colours of denim-I really do like it with your green jeans, such a perfect outfit for Autumn! xxx
ReplyDeleteAnother vote for the green! The green combo seems to be racing ahead - who would have thought?!!?
Deleteabsolutely lovely! really love it with the green :) x
ReplyDeleteFen you need to get a pair of these mini skimmer khakis. You will love them! I have lived in mine. The surprise hit of the year for me!
DeleteI love the blouse and it goes with everything, love your posts , I am plus size at the moment(losing weight) and get so much inspiration from your outfits.Great post as usual. Dawn x
ReplyDeleteThank you Dawn - so glad you enjoy the posts and I'm glad I can help with the inspiration. The blouse is one of those which does all the work for you and you just feel that little bit more put together. I'm not sure if it's the print or the colour or both but whatever it is, it works.
DeleteAnd well done with the weight loss so far. I'll be checking up on you.
Wow - I love this - and I love all the ways you've worn it. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteAww thanks Gina :o) You will have seen the blouse in real life on Tracey? It's a lovely blouse isn't it?
