Strawberry Picking

Tuesday 30 July 2013

So the strawberry season came storming along and we waited till the last week to make the most of it. Well if the truth be told - I didn't know where the nearest PYO (Pick Your Own) strawberry patch was till last week and then there was the matter that it was far too hot (for me) to stand in the middle of a field picking strawberries anyway. But I got there eventually.

Zara linen tee (old), Gap mini skimmers, Zara belt (n/a), Tatty Bag (old)

Nothing new on the clothes front except for my red belt which I picked up in the Zara sale. Infact that was the only thing I picked up in the Zara sale and now I could slap myself for missing out on a pair of silver leather espadrilles and two pairs of black sandals which I didn't buy when they had my sizes online. Slap slap. Now I'm hunting them down on Ebay. Wish me luck.

Strawberry picking - perfect summer pastime with kids. With Ben - yes. With George - no. He picked two strawberries, ran up and down the field like a loon and noshed his bodyweight in strawbs. Well to be honest, Ben probably ate his weight in strawbs as well but he did manage to let a few make it in to the boxes.

Ben - the grafter. He actually managed to get some in the box.

Don't be fooled by the picture of strawberry picking innocence.

Caught in the act and red-handed!

Strawberry? What strawberry?

Excuse the manic grin. And the sun was in my eyes!

I actually took my sister and her hubs along. I no longer think this is strange but can imagine how "overkill" this may seem to some people - they brought a bottle of water along to wash the strawberries they were eating on the job.

I've dubbed this "wash then nosh". Anybody else do this? Or just my family?

    1. Well the water soon disappeared which meant a fair few strawbs got eaten. We picked 7 boxes in total. More than enough for a good pudding. Have a good week too Anne.

    1. You'll have to hurry, the season is nearly over but it is really good fun. Your eldest will love it.

  4. So cute. I've never been strawberry picking, can I go with you next time? ;) By the way, the belt is a great little pop of color. I still have bought nothing from the sales, which is shocking to me, but it actually feels pretty relaxing not to participate in the madness this season. I always get kind of stressed thinking "now or never!" and end up making unwise decisions. I'm guessing you can relate since you seem to already have much remorse over those shoes... Good luck finding them!

    1. Deffo - you can come with me. Such a shame you live so far away and moving even further next year.

I saw the little red belt at the beginning of the season but didn't desperately need so left it well alone and got it for a good price. I've a feeling it's going to be one of my favourites. I'm not sure how much I've got out of the sales, maybe I'll do a roundup at some point ... or not ... incase I scare myself or the Grumps.

Yes, definitely kicking myself over the espadrilles because it's one of those items that I know I would have worn lots.

    2. Maybe you should hope over to Spain for a shopping weekend, you know we have espadrilles galore over here. Any color you can imagine... :)

    1. The lady looking after the strawberry patch asked me what I was going to do with 7 boxes and if I was making jam. All I could say was "eat them".

  6. Your kids are so cute, Sue. :)
I have no idea where my nearest strawberry picking patch is, but we did go past one on the way down to Dorset. The plans were made to stop by on the way back to London, but what do you know...we couldn't find it on the way back. Typical.

    1. It's always the way isn't it? You look like you're having a brilliant time in Dorset - hope you managed to squeeze in a strawberry cream scone at the very least.

    2. Don't like scones. :0
I did squeeze in plenty of ice cream though. :D

  7. Confession time - I have been stalking the shoe section and so far no luck. And to rub salt in the wounds, the last time I was in a Zara, they had a size 3 and a size 5 in the espadrilles but were a pair of size 4's to be found? NO.

  9. wow, that's just brilliant how they use straw to make picking the berries more comfy. in my country we mostly have soil and weed instead of the straw and that's not the comfiest obviously. oh and I miss fresh strawberries now. unfortunately our strawberry time ended already in June. such a nice post btw :)

    1. Hi Maiken. I have to say, this strawberry field was lovely and clean - even my family were seriously surprised and impressed by how organised it all was. The last one I went to, I was trying to avoid prickly stuff growing around. Fresh strawberries are the best - they just taste different to the shop bought ones.

And thanks for stopping past :o)

    1. I need another hair cut believe it or not - it grows so fast, I've taken to tying it back till I can get to the hairdressers again - might be September when the kiddiewinks are back at school and I can go in peace.

Take both kids if you like :o)

  11. I absolutely love starwberry picking and you have jut reminded me that we haven't been this year. We mentioned it before going on holiday and on our return just forgot until now and now it's too late! Great Zara top - I needed that today as it was a bit chilly here today.

  14. LOL! Only Asians freak out about not washing their fruit and veg. I'm the same while everyone else look at me like I've gone bonkers.

    1. As proved by the comments on this page - it's not just the Asian contingent! See this is the wonderful thing about blogging - you suddenly find that you're not bonkers alone.

  15. Your boys are so good looking - you are going have some girls hanging around your door in a few years time! Love the strawberry drool - yummy yummy. My boys hate strawberries - I still can't get over that, but my little girl will eat them every day if I let her. What a lovely little adventure - I'd wash as well, but then I think you'd have guessed that?

    1. I've been wearing these khakis a lot Jody - so much comfier and lighter and stretchier than any pair of jeans I've got for the weather we've had recently. It's done me good to give the jeans a rest.

  19. Your boys are the absolute cutest! Those cheeks, and that haircut! Reminds me I used to have that as a kid too. People always confused me for a boy.. thanks mum! LOL. And I LOVE that linen tee you have on - actually been trying to find something stripey exactly like that, amazingly the perfect stripe ratio is impossible to locate.
